Photographic Competition: Rules and Conditions
Promoter
1. The promoter of the competition is the Scottish National Photography Centre (SNPC) in association with the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB).
Purpose
2. The purpose of the competition is to commemorate the opening of the new Scottish Parliament at Holyrood, Edinburgh on 9 October, 2004.
Closing Date
3. The closing date is 5pm on Monday 18th October 2004.
Address for entries
4. A maximum of five images per entrant should be sent to the following postal address: Photo Competition (Student/Enthusiast), The Scottish National Photography Centre, New Parliament House, 5-7 Regent Road, Edinburgh EH7 5BL. Digital files by email to student@snpc.org.uk .
Eligibility and related entry conditions
5. The competition is open to students and enthusiasts of photography and to invited civic guests and professionals covering the event.
6. The staff and contractors of SNPC and SPCB and their direct family members, MSPs' direct families and MSPs' staff direct families are not eligible to enter the competition.
7. Entries must be submitted on an individual basis.
8. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering this competition.
9. Entrants must comply with all the rules to be eligible for the prize.
10. No responsibility is accepted by SNPC and the SPCB for ineligible entries or entries made fraudulently.
11. Proof of postage cannot be accepted as proof of receipt. No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are lost, delayed or damaged in the post or those sent electronically.
12. It is a condition of entry that entries submitted may be used or published by SNPC and SPCB without payment to any entrant for present and future purposes and without obtaining further permission.
13. SNPC and the SPCB reserves the right to impose further conditions at the time any entry is being made.
Specification of composition of entries
14. Maximum of five images per entrant. Prints to maximum of A4.
15. All entries must have first name and surname, full address (including postcode) on the reverse of the entry. Please include age if under 16. Telephone number and email address are optional.
16. All entries must be original and the entrant's own and unaided work.
Decision
17. The entries will be judged by a panel selected by the SNPC and SPCB and will include Sir Sean Connery and George Reid the Presiding Officer. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
18. There will be one winner in each category.
19. The winners will be contacted personally by letter after the closing date.
20. Entries will not be returned to the entrants.
The Prize
21. The winner in the Student/Enthusiast category will receive a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F828 digital still camera.
The winner from the civic guests will receive a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P100.
The winner in the professional category will receive £1000.
22. The winning photographs and a selection of the best will be published on the Scottish Parliament's official website and on the SNPC website.
23. No cash equivalent of the prizes will be offered.
24. Prizes are subject to change at the discretion of SNPC and the SPCB.
Copyright
25. SNPC and the SPCB have the right to use all entries submitted for the competition non-exclusively in perpetuity.
26. The SPCB has the right to improve, edit, expand, modify, display and reproduce any entry, whether in print, on the internet, CD-Rom or by other media from the date of submission, without payment to any entrant for present purposes and in the future. SNPC and the SPCB reserve a non-exclusive right to reproduce any of the submissions and are licensed by the photographer to use all photographs for editorial and promotional purposes in connection with the competition.
The promoters have the right to make any of the submissions available to Scran, the charity which provides educational online access to heritage and culture in Scotland. Scran is granted a non-exclusive right by the photographer to use images on the Web and on CD-ROMs for educational purposes in perpetuity. Scran may grant a licence for the commercial use of the picture on behalf of the owner as long as it returns a royalty payment to the owner.
Publicity
27. SNPC and the SPCB has the right to use the name, age (if under 16) and region of the entrant beside any image displayed or reproduced. Written consent of the entrant will be required. If the entrant is under the age of 16 the written consent of the parents/guardians will be required.
28. SNPC and the SPCB have the right to use photographs of the winners for promotion of, and publicity and marketing purposes of the Scottish National Photography Centre and the Scottish Parliament. Photographs may be used in SNPC, SPCB and Scottish Parliament publications and on the official website of the Scottish Parliament.
Disqualification
29. SNPC and the SPCB has the right to disqualify any entrant who breaches any of the above rules.
Jurisdiction
30. These rules are governed by the laws of Scotland.
