The vision: The Scottish history and practice of the art of photography has world status; international collections celebrate the art with natural reference to this particular Scottish creativity and depend on work made in Scotland and by Scots.
All over the world there are institutions devoted to the celebration and promotion of photography, but as yet, Scotland itself has no national centre.

SNPC Ltd will create a National Photography Centre in Edinburgh. It will be a gallery, educational forum, conservation centre and magnet for the best in photography and photographers, both national and international.
Our mandate is to provide an accessible visual resource centre that will show the vital place photography holds in contemporary culture while communicating the intrinsic value and aesthetic significance of the image as an expression of human thought, imagination and talent. It aims to encourage creativity and thereby both to advance and to celebrate the highest standards of excellence in photography.
The Centre will act as a focus and a source of interest, and will generate activity, both at its base in Edinburgh, and out in the wider world: in the schools and colleges, around the country and abroad. This will be achieved in active collaboration with artistic, educational and community organisations.
